| Bow |
|
| The
front section of a wood strip kayak. |
| |
| Bulkhead |
|
| A
partition that divides a kayak or plane into compartments. |

| Chine |
|
| Any
corner instead of a curve in the cross section view of the woodstrip
kayak. |
| |
| Cockpit |
|
| An
area in a kayak toward the stern, lower than the rest of the deck,
from which the vessel is
steered. Specifically, the large center opening in a kayak. |

| Coaming |
|
| A
raised rim or border around an opening designed to keep out water.
Typically found around the cockpit of a
woodstrip kayak. |

| Deck |
|
| The upper half of a kayak extending horizontally
from one side to the other. Kayaks typically have rounded, flat or
ridged decks. |

| Hatch |

| A
kayak's compartment. Kayaks can have bow and stern hatches for access
to storage areas in the bow and stern. |

| Hull |

| The
basic frame or body of a kayak. Simply, refers specifically to the

ability of a kayak to maintain equilibrium or resume its original,
upright position after being moved by the sea
or strong winds. |
