| This
describes what is included in our wood kayak kits. |
| |
| Wood Strips |
| |
| The
strips are milled with a cove and a bead so they can be joined
together easily and the joint is tight even when the strips are
bent over the form of the boat. This allows for a lightweight
yet durable boat. More information about our strips can be found here. |

| Building Strongback |
| |
Our
strongback arrives with all components for assembly labeled, drilled,
cut and slotted. Key
features include:
Strongback legs, for setting up without needing to "improvise"
your own legs or head out to the hardware store to buy suitable materials.
Rolling casters are
included with standard kits to allow you to push the strongback out
of the way when you are not working on it.
Strip supports for easy access to wood strips on either side of the
strongback. This helps in managing the strips color and protects them
from damage.
Pre-slotted and
pre-drilled parts to
allow simple set-up without having to align, clamp and screw
parts together by eye.
All nuts, bolts and screws are included to assemble the strongback.
This includes bolts and wing nuts to ease and speed the alignment and
centering of boat forms on the strongback. We also include all screws
for assembly, to save you a trip to the hardware store and avoid set-up
frustrations. |

| Boat Forms |
| |
| Our
kits include all boat forms pre-cut.
All boat forms are pre-drilled with alignment holes for quick
set-up. They also come with water line, center line and sheer lines
marked. |
| |
| Boat Stems |
| |
Kits
include inside and outside boat stems for the stern and
bow. They are made of hardwood, typically Honduras
Mahogany or Maple. The hardwood increases the durability of the boat
where it experiences the most wear.
| |
| Cockpit Coaming |
| |
| Our cockpit coaming wall arrives as a single
piece pre-formed ready to be trimmed and inserted onto the deck. This
eliminates the
process of building a bending jig and forming the coaming wall. The
coaming is made from hardwood to match your kayak stems. |
| |
| Saddle Supports |
| |
Kits
include the saddle support components to support your boat when
you are stripping the deck. All parts arrive
marked and pre-drilled, including the actual saddle support sling,
mounting screws and bolts.
This
eliminates the process of having to build your own saddle supports
to hold your
boat
while
your
are
building. |
| |
| Epoxy |
| |
We
use MAS epoxy. Thousands of boat kits have successfully been built
using this epoxy system. Hardener, resin, cab-o-sil, wood flour
and metered pumps are all included with
each
kayak kit.
With the included metered pumps mixing epoxy correctly is easier
rather than having to use measuring cups.
If
you have a "favorite" epoxy
let us know and we sometimes can substitute. |
| |
| Fiberglass |
| |
We
use 5.6 oz. fiberglass which has woven fibers.
The result is fiberglass that easily conforms to the shape of your
hull and deck and greater ease in building.
This is particularly helpful when sanding along the sheer line where
the deck meets the hull. Fraying fiberglass can leave raised discolored
areas.
On request we ship a lighter 4 oz. fiberglass to allow for building
a lighter boat when boat weight is a major concern.

| Foot Braces |
| |
With
our standard kayak kits, we also include the best quality adjustable
foot braces we can find. They are a bit more expensive but they
pay for
themselves
in
reduced
frustration and maintenance.
The
foot braces are made of aluminum rails and plastic sliders. The
combination of aluminum and plastic
is deliberate so that they will not react with saltwater and "weld" themselves
together over time. |
| |
| Minicell Seat |
| |
| Every
kayak kit we ship comes with a carved minicell seat, hardwood
seat back, hip braces and knee braces. The minicell foam does not
absorb
water allowing it to stand up to rugged weather conditions. |
| |
| Deck Rigging |
| |
| Every
kayak kit includes all fittings including shock cord necessary
for fore and aft rigging, stainless steel screws,
cap nuts and pad eyes. All metal hardware is made of stainless steel
to stand up to saltwater and avoid rust forming on your boat. |
| |
| Hatch Straps And Gaskets |
| |
We
include all buckles and straps necessary for securing your hatches
in place with each kayak kit. We also include closed cell
double gaskets for each hatch lip to help keep water from entering
the hatch.
| |
| Custom
Fit Design |
| |
| Every
kit can be custom fit to you body dimensions if you wish. We use
traditional
measurement techniques of the Aleutians in combination
with our proprietary design software to fit each
cedar strip kayak kit to your body. |
| |
| Artistic
Design Plan |
| |
| An
artistic design of your selected deck design is included with each
kit. We offer over 1000 deck designs for you to select. This
design allows you to create your selected deck design. Also we include
a
design
copyright
reproduction
license for the design, granting you the right to reproduced the design. |
