Many
of our boat wrights are former students of the Northwest School
of Wooden Boat Building. We recruit directly from traditional
wooden boat building schools. Our typical wooden boat builder
has gone through extensive training in fine wood working, wood
working safety, wooden boat design and wooden boat construction.
With our
skill and training we enjoy the results we achieve in building
wooden kayaks. We are also the same people who provide support
to guide you successfully through the building of your wood
kayak
kit.
We use traditional
wood working techniques and tools, and focus on the custom
craftsmanship that goes into creating your wood kayak. This
process takes longer, but is the way we build every hand crafted
wooden kayak. Most visitors to our wooden boat
shop are suprised to find more hand tools than big power tools.
The main hand tools we use are the same tools used for centuries
to build wooden boats: chisels, block planes, rasps, wooden
mallets and hand saws.
