kayak building myself with a kayak
kit? |

Our
complete wooden kayaks. |
First,
we love building kayaks. Unlike many other companies, our boat
builders are professional wooden boat builders who have studied wooden
boat design
and construction.
Many
of our boat builders have studied at the Northwest School of Wooden Boat
Building, we also recruit from other regional wooden boat building schools.
You can find more information about our boat builders here.
We
build your wooden kayak based on your preferences. We start with
the model and design you select then fit the wood kayak to your
body size and other preferences. Here you can learn more about our
custom fitting process and how we build
to order Our stapled kayaks are built using the traditional staple
construction technique where the strip planks are stapled into place.
Once the
planks have dried the staples are removed leaving small staple marks
on the surface of the wood kayak. Our stapless kayaks are built using
no staples leaving an unmarked surface on the kayak.
Our
wait list time is something else to consider. We typically have a
wait list that ranges from 4 to 12 weeks before we can
begin to build your wooden kayak. Our wooden kayak kits usually ship
within
10 days of order. More information about our delivery time and wait
list can be found here.

Our
wooden kayak kits. |
Building
a kayak from our kayak kits is a highly enjoyable process. The main
skill you need is simply patience. You can successfully build our
kayaks without being a professional boat builder because we provide
you the support needed for success. Our kits take between 100 and
200 hours to complete depending on your level of skill and complexity
of your design.
We
provide support through our detailed instruction manual on how to
build a kayak, email support, telephone support and through our database
of technical articles on wooden kayak construction.
From
these links you can find more information about what's
in our wooden kayak kits, and frequently
asked questions.
